Earlier this year, Bloodbound left fans shaken on the battlefield with their brand new single, “Odin’s Prayer” off the upcoming Tales From The North album out July 7th, 2023 via AFM Records.
To say Bloodbound‘s sound has progressed over the years would be to vastly underestimate their power. Yet, they somehow still keep the same vibe in their melodies. “Odin’s Prayer” is one such track that follows the rhythm of previous releases like 2021’s “When Fate is Calling” and 2019’s “Rise of the Dragon Empire“. The building guitar riffs, and the thunderous drums always seem to let you know you’re in for an adventure.
The war-cry at the beginning of this track is epic as HELL, and introduces us once more to the speed and fury that is Bloodbound. Gently, Patrik Selleby’s vocals come in, traditional in stride and enthralling listeners once again with his vocal precision and range. The video articulates the lyrical hammer with stormy seas, and Viking bloodshed; sword and shield slamming together behind the lyrical story lines. I love the deep blue, black, and purple hues that give this video an other-worldly feel. Moments and breaks of flute offer a more traditional homage to this track, to amp up its tale and really bring the Northern folklore to the front lines.

It’s a simple and explosive track, signature in Bloodbound form which makes it an easy repeat listen for long-time fans while still adding a newer, more progressive sound to their backs. However, it’s no “Creatures of the Dark Realm” or “Moria” to me yet, though I’ll admit it grows upon me every day I hear it, and it teases the upcoming’s greatness. For this, Bloodbound has once again gained my curiosity, so I’ll be waiting, rowing my long boat towards hopeful shores, waiting to jump out when Tales From the North debuts.
