No, this isn’t a costume party, and it isn’t Halloween but, there’s no better time to pull out the pistols and dust off the ol’ eyepatch because Alestorm returns with the newest single “Magellan’s Expedition” off their upcoming album ‘Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum’ set to debut on June 24th via Napalm Records.

“Megallan’s Expedition” is an epic quest telling the tale of Ferdinand Megallan’s historical circumnavigation of the earth in 1522. The official video, which was filmed on location inside a castle, features a load of pyrotechnics, and a laser-eyed rubber duck who enters a fight against a young maiden warrior, finally transforming her into a true beauty – a duck!
With mystical orchestral backing, folk-derived violins, and a massive Latin choir, this song has all the classic sounds of Alestorm in its core, giving us those vibes from ‘Captain Morgan’s Revenge!’ all over again.
This track is a wild one. I cannot even explain my excitement from the moment it began. The drums come in blasting, and you hear the classic keys and backing orchestration, that gave Alestorm its unique sound, rise up to initiate the telling of another tale.
Vocals are deep, raspy, and full of that thrashing Metal energy we crave when it comes to Alestorm’s music. If you aren’t stomping your foot by thirty seconds in, there’s something wrong because this song makes you want to dance.
The music video itself is a wild mix of guns, lasers, fire, and flare. It’s got classic medieval touches while throwing in modern day and futuristic warfare that make it an instant Alestorm classic. I mean, it has a laser-beam shooting Rubber Duck, how do you argue with that?
