Teetering on the edge of their upcoming European co-headline tour with Celtic greats Eluveitie, Amorphis unleash a track that once more envelopes the senses with blinding riffs, vicious vocals, and divine melody. Titled “The Well“, this track is featured on the Halo (Tour Edition) on both CD and digipak, released November 4th via Atomic Fire. If you read my review for Halo published earlier this year, you’d know how deep the album enveloped me, pulling at every bit of emotion and passion that I could muster, and to have a new addition to that album appear now is almost overwhelming.

‘The Well’ tells the story of an individual who creates chaos and confusion by violating the principles of society. It is a timeless phenomenon that has been repeated regularly throughout history and is simply typical of us humans,” says singer Tomi Joutsen. “The song itself draws its influences from early Scandinavian black metal and classic oriental Amorphis vibes. One of the heavier tracks we recorded during the Halo studio session in 2021.”

Dropping in with the usual Amorphis intensity, as stated, this track holds a divine twist, with elegance harmonizing alongside terrorizing drums and poetic riffs to build on this calamity. To further express the fury of this track’s theme, vocals remain harsh throughout, echoing through shadow and flame with infinite power. A song that is all too relevant in today’s society, with our laws and morals constantly tested to endure, and often cast aside by those in power, this track’s release could not have arrived with more impeccable timing.
