Taking on myth and magic, Feuerschwanz debut their brand new single “Bastard von Asgard” to announce the release of the upcoming Fegefeuer album due out July 7th, 2023 via Napalm Records. After the success of 2021’s Memento Mori (which I reviewed over on Noobheavy.com), the chart-topping German Metal act sets sail to new lands, and further away from their once comedic rock homeland.

“Bastard von Asgard” is not only a fun spin on the tale of one of Loki’s infamous offspring but, features the talented Fabienne Erni (Eluveitie/Illumishade) singing in German for full Heavy Metal glory! Not only do Fabi’s vocal prowess appear on this track but, she stars as the title Bastard von Asgard, the shape-shifter who turns into a real wolf and takes on Hauptmann Feuerschwanz before turning her sights on Hodi. With an epic battle at its helm, and full on metal at its back, “Bastard von Asgard” hits you right in the face.
FEUERSCHWANZ on “Bastard von Asgard”:
“With this song, we pay our rightful tribute to the old gods! It is set in the saga world of the Vikings and deals with the end of the world of betrayal and deceit. Odin’s son meets Loki’s bastard – with vocal support from Fabienne Erni, singer of folk metal pioneers Eluveitie! To do justice to the epic saga, we have turned the speed up to full blast and march toward the end of the world. Ragnarök can come!”
Classic Viking settings, fire and steel, the excitement kicks off. Greeting the bastard spawn of Loki, the vocals chime in with immediate catchiness and intensity. Fabi’s delicate vocals contrast the metal core and it quickly becomes a track that’s difficult not to replay over and over again.
I’m no German-speaking expert but for tracks like this, it’s not needed for full enjoyment. The guitar solo also soars to new heights, nearly striking Asgard itself with its epicness, while battle, vengeance, and story all play out.
This track’s speed bangs on the very doors of Ragnarok, cranked to the max while the vocals fight it out with the same intensity as our characters in battle. Hearing Fabi sing in full German is an absolute treat, and one I’d happily take to hearing more often, and it fits all so perfectly with Feuerschwanz and the fervor they bring with every song.

Yet another catchy Feuerschwanz track to tack onto the top of my playlist, while I anxiously await the new album’s release. You can pre-order your own copy of the upcoming Fegerfeuer via the direct link, or via the Bandcamp link.
