Finnish melodic death metal band Crowen has released a new single, “The Unwritten End“, and with it comes a music video. The single is pulled from the upcoming ‘Through the Dying Mist‘ EP set to debut on February 20th 2026 via Inverse Records. 

The latest single tells the tale through a loop of beginning and end. We step through a world of dreams, a place that is as bleak as it is awe-inspiring. Our champion steps onward toward mystery, taking in stride precariousness and the probability of unyielding fate as he struggles to escape a world with no path to salvation.

The melody is sorrowful, filled with hopelessness and pain, yet touching with each guitar strike. As harsh vocals emerge atop a dedicated set of heavy instrumentals, we see the pain appear tenfold as frustration settles in and darkness sweeps overhead.

The dueling death metal heaviness against the melodic chorus and clean vocals is almost rhythmic; executed in a velvety smooth transition to depict the challenge of pushing forward with the weight of fate set upon your shoulders.

“Guitarist Sami Sandberg managed to fit the melodic line perfectly into the song’s atmosphere. Listening to Sami’s playing gives me a hypnotic feeling,” says vocalist-songwriter Esa Uusimaa.

Crowen‘s “The Unwritten End” is a perfect track to depict the eternal struggle of leaping into the unknown. It’s a battle of not knowing where to begin, while simultaneously struggling to bring an end to the suffering. The melodic notes striding from rigid, harsh display into lulls of dread seem to weep, bringing a depth of emotion onto this already powerful track that really carves itself into your soul. As we await the EP in full, this is a track to certainly linger on to bring about your own reflection on what may just be out of reach.
