Gothenburg’s finest portrayal of shadow and shade, Evergrey, emerge once more with their latest single, “Say“, through an intriguing new music video. The emotionally-charged track combines Evergrey’s classic heavy fortitude with mesmerizing keys and eyebrow-raising instrumentals, gifting us unmatched melodic prowess and a vocal experience only Tom S. Englund can provide.

Off Evergrey‘s forthcoming album, Theories of Emptiness, set to debut on June 7th, 2024 via Napalm Records, “Say” is only a glimpse into a world that critics across the globe have called “a flawless piece of progressive metal” (Powerplay Magazine – UK), as well as “perhaps their best album ever” (Sweden Rock Magazine). Once more proving themselves to be conquerors of Melodic Progressive Metal, Evergrey streams for us an endless parade of imagination, passion, and influence.
EVERGREY on “Say”:
“’Say’ is one of those songs that immediately when we wrote the chorus we knew that it would be an awesome single. It will simply kill live and is a very worthy follow-up to the success of ‘Falling From the Sun’. Regarding the end of the video there will of course be questions, a lot of questions, we have the answers.”
Once more rising over the 5-minute mark, Evergrey not only convey powerful imagery, but bring us a story once more unveiled through each verse, and powerfully solidified in a menacing chorus.
The opening verse provides us with the passion we expect from an Evergrey release, and unveils the emotional turmoil that so many can relate to without specific phrase or tale.
“It’s like echoes on the inside
Your unspoken words
It’s like knowing without knowing
Just knowing that it hurts
It’s like you painted a picture
Without colors and inert
You spoke without phrases
And still hoped to be heard.”
At just over 2 minutes, we are embraced by an unparalleled guitar solo that once again displays Evergrey‘s melodic skill set with finesse and intensity. The progressive flavours, of course, are not to be lost, serenading us into the chorus like the weight of thunder in an open sky.
“Say what you want
Say how you see this
Say before my heart is making me leave this.”
It is not what is spoken but left unspoken, the words that are said through the blink of an eye and the roll of unparted lips. It’s the hurt in expression, the screaming to know what’s true and what’s to be heard that’s left in silence.
Evergrey never ceases to amaze with impact and intensity that provoke thought and charm across their audience. Whether a long-time fan, or newly immersed, this upcoming album is sure to engage curiosity with just the bits we’ve been given.
