Letallis embraces imagination with latest single “Thief”

Date: May 7, 2024Author: Valkyrjia 0 Comments

Desire and desperation take hold with progressive metallers Letallis and their latest single “Thief.”

With formation solidified in New Jersey circa 2006 by Jake Calonius, the band swiftly released their first full-length titled The World Awakened. Riding a successful introduction, the band soon hit the stage, opening for bands like Powerman 5000, Candlemass, and Daylight Dies as well as securing a spot on Warped Tour 2008 for the NJ date. Switching locales to New York City in 2009, the band sat in quiet, turning to writing and recording before their release of Resonate in 2014. After uniting with new drummer Alex Cohen (Malignancy) and other members for live performances, the band started embracing their performance era in NYC in 2017, conquering the local metal scene.

Now, A Thousand And One Nights – Chapter I emerges from the mist, the first of a three-series EP set. Setting imagination on fire, the band unveils “Thief“, letting their story unfold once again.

The band comments:

“‘Thief’ is based around the point of view of a street thief who will stop at nothing, burn any bridge, to get what he wants. Honor below all. he eventually has an encounter with a jinni, asking him to satisfy his endless greed. Truly a person with an insatiable hunger for anything he doesn’t already possess.”

Dazzled by Arabian inspiration, and that signature twilight that comes with mystery and destiny, “Thief” kicks off with endless intrigue. It’s a mischievous introduction with only foreboding drum beats to taunt the soul. As the heaviness rides in, you feel weight sit in your throat, and unease ride your back. The tension mounts and the undiscovered now awaits.

It’s a track blooming with an infectious tone, one that strikes immediately and takes hold. You head-bang with ease, and let the weighted bass carry you forward as the rhythmic strings cascade your mind. There’s no random bouts of intensity, only moments of pause that let’s you fall back into the song’s tale and the hunger that conquers this Thief’s life.

Instrumental curiosities peek, and a softness whispers to you, like a serpent in the shadows, igniting fever once more. It’s a track that twists and curves with a complex and alluring soundscape, turning you down endless corridors of ‘what ifs’. I love the absolute intoxication of this track, and how it settles within you to keep you holding a torchlight through the haunted wisps and spine-tingling vocals. A taste of what’s to come, and an introduction to a story I’m sure will keep us anchored on its course.

LETALLIS is:
Jake Calonius (Guitar/Vocals)
Marcus Hedwig (Guitar)
Alex Cohen (Drums)
