Fires ignite with Existentia’s “Echoes of the Sun”

Date: April 30, 2024Author: Valkyrjia 0 Comments

Philadelphia, PA’s Technical Death Metal unit Existentia batters and bruises with their new single, “Echoes of the Sun.” Utilizing their eclectic mix of old school death metal aura with unbeatable tech strength, Existentia has hammered their way through the metal scene since their formation in 2019. Once more embracing the sheer, raw brutality of their passion and devotion, their emotional prowess shines through, captivating listeners and turning heads to their sound.

Formed by Ross Huber (guitar), Jacob Nunn (vocals, drums), and newest member Ryan Moll (bass, live backing vocals), Existentia has taken to the road once more in hopes of discovering and expressing the empirical turmoil faced by mankind. Inspired by everyday life, political struggles, and mere existence, this trio has solidified their sound, bringing relatable and relevant music to those looking for guidance in an ever-sorrowful world.

Troughout the years, Existentia has shared the stage with remarkable bands such as Hath, Flub, Cognitive Weedeater, and Artificial Brain, having garnered a reputation for their thrilling live performance. With a decorated history that includes members from bands like In The Fire, TFD, Young Graves, and Polemicist, Existentia not only steps forward with a myriad of experience, but a modern approach to the death metal scene.

Written and recorded in 2022 as part of a full-length creation, this track was elected for reveal during the 2024 solar eclipse-an event that spanned the globe evoking conversation from NASA, CERN, and the church, among others. In particular, “Echoes of the Sun” takes a stance on an amusing yet shadowed story of humanity’s endless conflict with the sun, diving into Existentia‘s talent for combining heavy music with provocative lyrics.

“Echoes of the Sun” is proof of the band’s message, with rapid fire drums, scathing guitar, and an overall decimating melody that truly tacks on the impact of their doom-destined path. In the band’s words, this song is “a relentless and epic journey that delivers everything fans of modern death metal crave.”

For myself, this track is evidence enough of Existentia‘s yearning to explore humanity’s historical triggers and repeated turmoil. It’s an ode to the individual plight, yet one that spans beyond one, to the grander, broader perspective. It’s tale is hammered down in vicious vocals, the harsh chords lingering on as the guitars cut through like rusted razors to carve out your soul. The relentless, heated drumming amplifies the anger, the confusion, and the overall struggle to reveal a song that’s not only expressive, but insanely addictive.

Existentia‘s level of focus in making the sound of suffering, and the looming sense of dread into a feverish tune is testament to their fury, and I look forward to the paths they’ll continue to explore.
