Debuting in 2022, As I Speak‘s first single “Mend” brought us face-to-face with inner turmoil. From the struggles of acceptance, to the realities weighing us down, As I Speak has never once shied away from passion nor intensity when unveiling a new song. As part of the Overnight Soundtrack, As I Speak blended well with the movie’s overall feel and emotional shifts, and Solunar Records wasted no time in embracing those skills.
After the blistering release of his cover for Bad Omens‘ “Just Pretend” that left me completely in awe, As I Speak drops in with a brand new stunner for new and old listeners alike.
As I Speak‘s newest single, titled “Surrender” brings the feelings of Nu Metal back from the early 2000’s. It’s got that Teen Movie Soundtrack essence in its core, with those stunning, emotional vocals, once more taking the lead. Highschool me would’ve slapped this onto the back of a Naruto AMV in an instant.

It reminds me a bit of early Rise Against and Stabbing Westward, touching more on the heavier side of what was once Alternative Rock with the same level of energy that As I Speak puts into every ounce of his creations. It’s catchy and worthy of a Top 10 Radio Listing with the sheer amount of nostalgia it releases.
It’s yet another bit of proof that As I Speak can dabble in a myriad of mysticism in music, touching upon inspiration and influence as he bends every note to his will. And it’s a track that I’ve easily replayed over and over for its heaviness, vocal prowess, and passion alone. To see the growth that As I Speak has publicly had over less than two years of releases is astonishing, with each new track rivaling the last, yet still allowing it to hold its place in the spotlight.
If you’re looking for a bit of nostalgia, with a sound that meshes well with the new gen, then “Surrender” is for you.
