January was an absolute barrage of metal releases, with no shortage of inspirational tracks debuting from end to end. One such track was The Effigy’s “Infiltrate” that features fantastical melodic orchestration and haunting duration.
THE EFFIGY comments:
“‘Infiltrate’ is a song about being deceived and lied to, and trying to break free, but finding yourself inexplicably tethered to the abuse. Originally, ‘Infiltrate’ was one of my calmer, more introspective tracks, but when Tim came on board, we decided to twist the song to better represent the emotion behind the lyrics. Tim added a much needed aggression to the track with the addition of a breakdown and encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone and try harsh vocals for the first time.”

Originating in the UK, the now Perth, Australia based Effy Gold pulls influences from the essence of artists like Garbage, Joy Division, Evanescence, and Keane, and is inspired by themes like Gothic and Folk imagery, alongside mythology. An intriguing blend of styles from soundtrack cinematics to gothic metal harmonies, The Effigy composes creations through masterful mixes of imagery and mystery that pulls listeners in from across the musical universe.
From the moment it begins, we see the shimmer of twilight on the horizon, and the scatter of stars through a perfectly blended mix of musical gentleness. It offers a taste of the newer Spiritbox releases, pulling listeners into a world of fantasy and reflection before hitting us with weighted emotions and memory. Tim’s encouragement to spur both aggression and experimentation on this track proved sensational. The added breakdown and bits of metal heaviness add to this track’s emotional journey through deceit and yearning by balancing the numbness with the itch of determination.

Effy’s vocals burn with raw strength as she shifts from cool and calm to the fury, embracing the need for change with harshness and unyielding fervor. It’s a track that burns, lingering long after the initial fire is released, and one that’s embers will remain long into the night.
