Blazing a fiery new path through the underground extreme metal scene, all the way from Perth, West Australia, comes a band as heavy as they are determined. Deathcore metal up-comers Buried Shallow release their self-titled EP featuring unique sound and structure; touching upon chaos, and the infamy that comes with striking groove and death metal vibes.

Having built up a following in the underground circuit through the mayhem of their live shows, the band has left a searing indentation through their stunning charisma, and relentless stage energy. Tearing up the stage alongside modern Aussie greats like Nicolas Cage Fighter and Xenobiotic, Buried Shallow already seem to have their sights set on greatness.
Exploring the cavernous dark with their lyrical themes, and performing with break-neck resilience, the band tackles obstacles that come to conquer them through cathartic expression and perseverance. Unable to see the band live? Take up this EP and taste the same fury their music exudes live!

“Death of Me” takes hold; offering up a sorrowful introduction of melodic pain and suffering. The drum beats commence, bringing with them an unparalleled fury with the blending of dynamic bass and powerful riff work. Vocals come in string, but aren’t rigid or gutteral, perfectly melding in with harmony and creating a tasteful yet unique sound. It’s a track filled with terrorizing noise and symphony that embraces the emotional weight of its melody, taking it by the hand and leading it into an atmosphere of cosmic power. As an introduction, it has no business going as hard as it does and yet, in doing so, Buried Shallow gives us an instant desire to hear more.

“Swarm” ramps up the speed, moving from bludgeon to battery in a bass-stricken track that’s smooth and smoldering. The hammering riffs and frightening energy this track exudes is unmatched, offering a mix of thrash and groove that’s infectious and catchy. It’s a track to go ballistic to; limbs flying as you enter the pit, ready to let loose and conquer the dance floor. I love the sheer power that hits just before the 2:50 mark, giving headbangers their moment to shine and giving us one final burst of unbridled wrath to get down with.
Coming in dead center is “Schizofrantic” that takes no heat from its predecessors, going just as hard if not moreso. Bringing back the melodeath vibes, this track offers up that throat-punch drumbeat, coupled with rhythmic guitars that get you absolutely hypnotized. Vocals are cranked to the max, unleashing hell with both vicious lows and astounding highs to bring us a beat that’s chaotic and melodic.
“Paint With Pain” breaks the walls of sanctuary to beat-down and bruise. Coming at us with unbridled rage and madness, the vocals of this track are as weighty as they are well-crafted.
“Friend, just reach out and give me your hand. I’d rather talk than see your Funeral again. The pain that fills my head. I cannot stand all that is.”
It’s simple yet filled with the emotion we can relate to all too deeply.
The melodic essence captures the groove vibes, ramping up the atmospheric tension while blazing forward through a star-scattered darkness. The echo of screams etched with demonic lows is spellbinding. Mixed with the catapulting bass, this track shines through, showing us that its increasing popularity since its July release is certainly no joke.
The final track on this EP is “Suffer Unto Me” that sees groove metal take hold to give us a new flavour for the take-down. Vocals are stark and steady, keeping passion at the forefront while the melody backs its presence. Not to be outdone by the EP’s previous tracks, “Suffer Unto Me” hits us with a mind-numbing breakdown at the song’s center that is unhinged and divine. Filled with a delectable blend of riffs and pauses, the finale of this EP is not to be taken lightly.
“We wanted to create something that people could relate to on a visceral level,” says vocalist Charlie White “This EP is not just about our experiences; it’s about the shared human experience of facing fears, confronting pain, and emerging stronger on the other side.“

For a five-track debut, Buried Shallow‘s self-titled release is but a sampling of the fury this band is ready to unleash. With a balanced blend of melodic and groove, each track is hypnotizing, giving us beats to stomp to, mosh to, and headbang to. Not to be forgotten is the vocal prowess emitted in each and every verse, and the intricacies that come with simple spoken lyrics, that build on emotional turmoil. Showcasing raw emotion, and passion, Buried Shallow brings that deathcore intensity into the mix whilst committing to ensuring each track is not only heard but felt.
