EVERGREY, Gothenburg’s darkest music travelers, celebrate 30 years of dark metal domination with a very special treat to be released via Napalm Records: their anniversary album, entitled From Dark Discoveries to Heartless Portraits, which will break the horizon on December 15, 2023.

In what seems like perfect timing, Fabienne Erni (Eluveitie, Illumishade), has released her very own piano and vocal cover of one of my personal Evergrey favourites – “Call Out the Dark“. This almost light-hearted, acoustic version is both captivating and fore-boding; offering the same level of mysticism as the original but commanding power through Fabi’s vocal prowess, over the metal orchestration.

Strong piano keys beam in beneath stunning vocal holds and balance, moving from sorrowful verse to dynamic chorus with emotional strength yet subtle harmony. The added light of a flickering bonfire against endless dark compliments the acoustics perfectly, touching upon a fading sun as we “call out the dark” and confide in ourselves and the comfort only shadows provide.

Once more, Fabi boasts an elegant performance, harmonizing her vocal skill to hit extraordinary highs and thundering lows to give new life to an already tasteful classic. As the flames turn to smoldering embers, and the sun breaches the shoreline, we call to the trust within, to guide us once more through this new dawn.
