The cinematic lovechild, Silent Skies, from Evergrey’s Tom S. Englung and pianist/composer Vikram Shakar (Redemption, Lux Terminus) opened the gates to the first of many official videos with “Construct”. Taken from their third studio album, Dormant, set to drop September 1st 2023 via Napalm Records, this is the album’s first track, their guiding north star in the dwindling darkness.
“Construct” summons listeners to accompany the two artists on a spiritual journey. With endless atmosphere, shimmering sound, and soulful lyrical reflection, the moment the notes begin is the moment we are set free. From the playful piano keys that lure us in, to Tom’s ethereal vocals that speak to our very souls, we are engulfed in an emotional adventure of discovery, reflection, and expansion that not only speaks to our truths but, sees through our lie, breaking down our shields, and piercing the veils of disguise.
Each lingering note, each spanning verse, takes us further from comfort and complacency but does so with a gentle hand and guiding voice. It’s embracing the freedom in getting lost, discovering change, and the new, all basted in the instrumental cascade of Vikram’s talented compositional skill.
The band adds:
“We are thrilled to present ‘Construct’, the first offering from our new album Dormant. ‘Construct’ is an encapsulation of the ethos that informed the creative process for this new record. Musically it explores textures and soundscapes that are new additions to our sonic universe, but the reflective melancholy that defines what we do is still very much present. The conceptual theme for Dormant has been ‘conversations with life, about life,’ and in ‘Construct’, you will hear the first part of this conversation. We hope it provokes conversations within yourselves in turn.”
Following the strides of atmospheric melancholy, Silent Skies’ Dormant is the third release, rising from the shadows of Nectar (2022), and Satellites (2020) to take its own place in the spotlight.
